La Vida Passport Strength Ranking : Global GDP Wealth 2024
The 2024 passport rankings show that five countries have passports offering visa-free access to more than 90% of the world based on GDP. San Marino tops the list with 181 visa-free destinations, less destinations than Japan in 3rd place, but more valuable in terms of the quality of the countries a San Marino passport can access.
Notable countries include the UK in 38th spot reaching 80.3% and USA in 42nd place reaching 79.3%. European countries occupy most of the top 30 rankings with Finland ranking highest in 8th spot. The highest ranking country with a citizenship investment programme is Malta in 12th position.
Some of the weakest passports include Pakistan (194th) and Nigeria (196th). Although these passports can access around 50 countries visa-free the attraction of those countries based on the strength of their economies and likely appeal to business travellers is low. This leads to the holder of a Pakistan passport able to access visa-free just 2.2% of global wealth. In the case of Nigeria it is a shockingly low visa free access of 2.1%.
La Vida’s wealth passport ranking is a sophisticated measure of the power or strength of passport based on the countries it has visa-free access to.
While other passport rankings look purely at the number of destinations the La Vida report is unique in analysing the quality of that visa-free-access based on the size of the country’s GDP. It analyses the GDP (or wealth) of each country which the passport has visa-free access to. Combining the data to provide an overall percentage score. That is the percentage of global GDP that the country’s passport provides visa free access to for its citizens.
