Madagascar, with its stunning biodiversity and potential for ecotourism, presents an intriguing option for high-net-worth investors. The island nation offers various investment opportunities, particularly in agriculture, mining, and renewable energy sectors. Unfortunately such investment would not lead to the benefits of citizenship although residency is possible.
Madagascar does not currently offer a citizenship by investment programme and African countries are not best placed to offer such initiatives with generally weak passports. Investors should consider exploring alternatives. St Lucia citizenship is emerging as an increasingly popular choice for those pursuing a second citizenship. Or for options involving higher investment then Turkey or Malta are popular choices.
Madagascar does offer the opportunity for residency for foreign investors via an investor visa. This visa is intended for high-net-worth investors who wish to create or buy a company in Madagascar. For similar options in more established nations then we advise investors to consider alternatives such as the USA EB5 or the Canada investor visa which offers a fast and cost-effective immigration route that provides Permanent Residency (PR). Unlike other business immigration paths, the PR status is not tied to the success of the business.
Madagascar holds the 147th position on La Vida’s Global Passport Ranking. If it were to implement a second citizenship programme, investors would gain visa-free entry to only 30.8% of countries, accounting for merely 14.7% of global travel opportunities. Countries with established citizenship by investment programmes tend to offer more advantageous passports. For example Antigua and Barbuda whereby citizenship leads to a passport which ranks 70th in the world, providing visa-free access to 161 destinations.
