Chile Residency and Citizenship by Investment

Chile Investor Visa

Chile is one of South America’s most established economies, offering strong international trade links, developed infrastructure and access to Pacific markets. Its major cities, business opportunities and high standard of living make it attractive to investors seeking a long-term base in Latin America.

Chile Golden Visa

Chile does not offer a conventional passive Golden Visa through property, funds or government bonds. Buying property alone does not provide residency. However, there is an investor visa offering temporary residency to qualifying foreign-company representatives and senior managers pursuing an active investment. Those looking for a golden visa through property investment may want to consider Panama’s Investor Visa.

Chile Investor Visa

The Chile Investor Visa requires a proposed investment of at least US$500,000 in the production of goods or services. Applicants must secure the required official sponsorship and apply from outside the country.

Golden Visa Alternatives in the Americas

Investors seeking a passive investment route may prefer the Panama Qualified Investor Visa. It currently offers permanent residence through a qualifying real estate investment from US$300,000. Argentina is also developing a Citizenship by Investment program. The legal framework has been established, but complete investment and application requirements have not yet been published.

Chile Citizenship by Investment

Chile does not offer direct citizenship by investment. Applicants may generally apply for naturalisation after five years of residence, provided they hold valid permanent residence and meet the other nationality requirements. Several countries in the wider Caribbean offer direct citizenship programs. The Grenada Citizenship by Investment program provides a faster alternative, with qualifying contributions from US$235,000 and approved real estate investment from US$270,000.

Chile Residency Investment

Chile offers temporary residence permits to foreign individuals investing over $500,000 in the country. After two years, this visa can be converted to permanent residency. If the individual plans on maintaining continuous residency for five years, they become eligible for Chilean citizenship. Real estate investment is a popular route to residency and citizenship, aligning with the more structured pathways of Dominica’s Citizenship by Investment programme or in Europe that of Greece’s Golden Visa.

Individuals can also apply for an Independent Means Visa. A ‘Rentista’ or ‘Pensionado’ visa is offered to clients who can demonstrate sufficient regular income, such as rental income, dividends, salaries and pensions.

Chile Passport Strength & Ranking

Ranking 43rd on La Vida’s comprehensive Global Passport Ranking, Chile possesses strong passport power and also holds the highest ranking South American passport. Although not a formal citizenship by investment program, the Chilean passport provides access to 189 of the world’s 227 destinations, representing 78.7% of global GDP and 93.4% of the worldwide visitor market.
