The eagerly awaited citizenship by investment programme in Argentina is expected to be launched sometime late in 2026 or early 2027. Details of the programme should be finalised in the first half of 2026. That includes the investment amount and the nature of qualifying investments. Real estate is one investment class that has been speculated about although La Vida anticipates investments more directly focussed on industries that contribute to economic development in Argentina. Full details will be available here once announced.
Once the program is introduced, it is likely to be very popular due to the limited Citizenship by Investment (CBI) options available in South America. Currently, Panama offers a permanent residency program through real estate investment and will soon launch its own CBI programme. El Salvador offer a citizenship investment program through bitcoin investment. For those seeking mainstream and current options, investors are generally advised to consider the Caribbean programs available.
Argentina’s immigration policies primarily focus on family reunification, employment, and humanitarian reasons.
However, prior to the introduction of a citizenship investment program there are some options for investors who are purely seeking residency in Argentina, for example:
This visa is aimed at those who are self-employed and can prove a monthly income of at least 30,000 Argentine pesos. It is a one-year, renewable visa, ultimately leading to the possibility of applying for permanent residency.
For foreign investors managing an Argentine business in which they have invested more than 1,500,000 Argentine pesos. Like with the Financier Visa, this is a one-year visa, which may be renewed for three years. The applicant is eligible to obtain Argentine citizenship after living in the country for over two years.
Once the CBI program is launched one of the attractions for applicants would be Argentina’s strong passport. The Argentine passport offers visa-free access to 183 countries worldwide and is the second strongest passport in South America. Concerning access for investors, it offers visa-free access to 53.6% of the world’s wealth (as measured by GDP) and 83.8% of the global travel popularity. It ranks 53rd overall in La Vida’s comprehensive Global Passport Ranking.
