Guyana Golden Visa

Guyana does not currently offer a golden visa or citizenship by investment program of the kind found elsewhere. Such golden passport programs grant citizenship or residency rights through substantial investment, typically in real estate, national development funds or local businesses.

Guyana has traditionally been a net exporter of migrants, with a significant portion of the population having emigrated over the years, and opportunities remain open to Guyanese nationals investing abroad for residency or citizenship. European programs are popular, including Greece and Hungary, while citizenship by investment is a feature of several Caribbean countries including Dominica and Grenada.

Guyana Residency

Guyana offers no formal residency by investment scheme. Some have speculated it may introduce one in future, given the interest recent oil production has generated in the country and its economy. A work permit is available to investors for up to five years.

Guyana Passport Strength and Ranking

Guyana ranks 123rd of 199 on the La Vida Passport Value Index. The Guyanese passport reaches 129 of the world’s 227 destinations without a prior visa, representing 22.5% of world GDP and 31.2% of global travel measured by international visitor arrivals.

Guyanese nationals require advance visas for the United States, the United Kingdom, the Schengen Area, China and Japan. Those five destinations account for most of the gap between the destination count and the 22.5% economic reach, and Guyana sits towards the lower end of the South American passports on the Index.

Established programs deliver considerably more. Grenada ranks 63rd on the Index with 179 destinations, 59.6% of world GDP and 79.4% of global travel, and holds an E-2 treaty with the United States allowing citizens to apply for a US investor visa. Dominica sits 68th with 183 destinations and 55.5% of world GDP.
