Uruguay offers a stable political environment and a strong rule of law, making it an attractive destination for high net-worth individuals. Its well-developed financial system, low corruption levels, and favorable tax policies make it an ideal place for wealth preservation and business growth. The country boasts beautiful landscapes and a high quality of life, with a strong focus on education and healthcare. Real estate opportunities, particularly in the coastal areas, are appealing, and the ease of doing business and access to regional markets make Uruguay an enticing prospect for those seeking both financial security and a pleasant lifestyle in South America.

Uruguay Investor Visa

Uruguay does not currently offer a citizenship by investment programme. However it does offer an investor visa also known as golden visa for those willing to spend at least 60 days a year in the country and to invest in real estate.

Uruguay Residence

Uruguay offers various pathways to residency, including temporary and permanent options for various purposes, such as work, family reunification, and retirement.

Permanent Residence Programme

This route allows individuals to obtain permanent residency by proving financial solvency, as well as spending at least 60 days a year in the country after purchasing a home in Uruguay. To prove financial solvency individuals must supply evidence of an income stream of $1,500 per month. The processing time for the investor visa can be up to 18 months although applicants are free to remain in the country during this period. After three-to-five years of residency it is possible to apply for citizenship.

URuguay Passport Strength and Ranking

Uruguay has a fairly strong passport. Allowing access to 81.4% of global travel, as well as 52.1% of world wealth (measured in GDP), it ranks 57th in La Vida’s comprehensive Global Passport Ranking and 3rd in South America’s passport ranking. Were the country to ever adopt a passport by investment route, it would be an attractive option for foreign investors.
