The Dominican Republic is a Caribbean nation situated on the island of Hispaniola, sharing its borders with Haiti. The Dominican Republic boasts a mixed economy, with key sectors including tourism, agriculture, services, and manufacturing. Challenges exist that potential investors should consider. The Dominican Republic faces issues such as corruption, and an underdeveloped infrastructure in some regions. Additionally, the country is susceptible to natural disasters, including hurricanes. Despite these challenges, the Dominican Republic’s growing tourism sector and favourable economic policies make it an attractive investment destination for those willing to navigate potential risks and capitalize on the opportunities presented by its dynamic economy.

Dominican Republic Citizenship by Investment

The Dominican Republic does not offer a citizenship by investment programme. However, it is often confused with the Commonwealth of Dominica, known simply as Dominica, a different country in the Caribbean who do offer CBI. Dominica’s popular Citizenship by Investment programme requires an investment of $100,000, plus fees.

Dominican Republic Residency by Investment

The Dominican Republic does offer a residency by investment programme, which requires a minimum real estate investment of $200,000, plus fees. This route will grant investors a one-year residency permit which can then be renewed. It may be possible to naturalise in the Dominican Republic through this route but the applicant must speak fluent Spanish and meet the Dominican Republic’s naturalisation laws. Given the high cost of this residency programme, many investors find that the other Caribbean nations offering direct citizenship by investment programmes, such as Antigua & Barbuda’s programme, are far more appealing.

Dominican Republic PASSPORT STRENGTH AND RANKING

The Dominican Republic’s passport ranks 122nd in La Vida’s Comprehensive Global Passport Ranking, granting visa-free access to just 79 countries worldwide. All the other Caribbean nations offering citizenship by investment programmes have much stronger passports. The strongest option is the St Kitts and Nevis Passport which grants holders access to 166 destinations worldwide, more than double the offering of the Dominican Republic.
