Morocco, located in North Africa, is renowned for its diverse landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and vibrant economic growth. The country’s economy thrives in sectors like agriculture, tourism, and services, making it an attractive option for high-net-worth investors seeking new opportunities. Ongoing infrastructure projects and a commitment to development further enhance Morocco’s appeal for global investors.
Morocco does not currently operate a formal citizenship by investment programme. Such programmes allows individuals to acquire second citizenship by making qualifying investments, offering benefits like visa-free travel and financial flexibility. While you cannot acquire Moroccan citizenship directly through investment, several countries such as St Kitts and Antigua, and Portugal offer well-established citizenship by investment programmes.
While Morocco does not have a dedicated residency by investment programme, foreign investors interested in obtaining residency can explore existing immigration procedures. Morocco offers various residency permits: Short-term (up to one year, renewable), Long-term (up to ten years, renewable), Student (duration of studies), Work (for job offers), Retirement (for those over 55 with sufficient funds), and Family (for spouses or family members of Moroccans). Each permit serves different purposes, catering to the diverse needs and circumstances of foreign nationals residing in the country. For a simple residency by investment permit, foreign investors are advised to consider the European nations offering attractive programmes, such as the Portuguese Golden Visa.
Morocco ranks low on La Vida’s Global Passport Ranking at 134. If it were to offer second citizenship, foreign investors would receive visa-free access to 33% of countries representing 18% of global travel. These countries include Vanuatu, Hong Kong and all five citizenship by investment Caribbean countries. This passport ranks lower than many European and Caribbean passports. If Morocco were to introduce a formal citizenship by investment programme, investors would benefit from improved travel access across Africa, the Middle East, and beyond.
Morocco does not currently allow dual citizenship for most applicants, but exceptions exist for certain nationalities.
