Argentina Launches Citizenship by Investment Route

2 October 2026

Argentina has confirmed that it will launch its Citizenship by Investment Program before the end of 2026, with contributions starting at US$350,000.

Argentina’s government presents the program as part of a wider push to open the country to international capital, and it wants Argentine citizenship to stand for an open, trustworthy nation.

Interest in Latin America’s largest economies is rising among globally mobile investors. Argentina is a significant addition to the Citizenship by Investment market, and its passport reaches 183 destinations worldwide. This article covers what the program will cost, how the routes work, and what the Argentinian passport offers once citizenship is granted.

Reports indicate that the program will launch as early as November. To be the first to know, you can register your interest here.

When Will Argentina’s Citizenship by Investment Program Launch

The government expects the program to open in the fourth quarter of 2026. The Agency for Citizenship by Investment Programs (APCI) was created under the program’s approved legal framework, and it will run the application process.

Criteria for certifying authorised agents are expected in the coming weeks. Applications are submitted through certified agents, so that announcement is the next step before the program opens to investors.

How Much Does Argentina Citizenship by Investment Cost

Applicants will choose between two routes. The minister described both as simple and transparent.

Treasury Contribution Route

The Treasury route is a non-refundable contribution to Argentina’s National Treasury, starting at US$350,000. It has the lowest entry point of the two routes and suits investors who want a single, fixed payment.

Government Bond Route

The bond route is the purchase of a US$800,000 government security created specifically for the program. The bond is expected to run for seven years. It covers the principal applicant only.

Adding Family Members

Spouses and children can join an application. The applicant proves the family relationship and makes an additional contribution to the National Treasury:

  • Spouses: US$100,000
  • Children aged 18 to 25 who have never married and have no children: US$100,000
  • Children under 18: US$25,000

Older children don’t need to prove financial dependency to qualify. Dependants pay the same Treasury contributions on both routes, because the bond applies only to the principal applicant.

What a Family of Four Would Pay

A family of four is a principal applicant, a spouse and two children under 18. Their totals would be:

  • Treasury route: US$500,000 in contributions
  • Bond route: US$950,000 in total, made up of the US$800,000 bond and US$150,000 in Treasury contributions

For most families, the Treasury route is the more efficient way into Argentine citizenship.

How Applications Will Be Vetted

APCI will lead each assessment. It will work with the State Intelligence Secretariat, the Financial Information Unit, the Ministry of Security and the Ministry of the Interior. Checks will cover:

  • Identity
  • Traceability and lawful origin of funds
  • Assets and finances
  • Jurisdictional risk
  • Criminal and reputational records
  • Immigration history

APCI will send its recommendation to the National Directorate of Migration, which will make the final decision on each application. Due diligence and financial transparency will follow standards set by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).

All payments must move through the formal financial system and meet anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing standards. The proceeds will go towards strengthening Argentina’s fiscal and financial position. Vetting to this standard protects the long-term value of the passport, and that matters to every investor who holds one.

How Powerful Is the Argentinian Passport

A passport’s value depends on where it lets you go and what those destinations offer. Counting visa-free stamps doesn’t capture that. The La Vida Passport Value Index measures 199 passports against 227 destinations, covering 199 countries and 28 territories. It weights each destination by its share of global GDP and international visitor arrivals.

On that measure, the Argentinian passport is one of Latin America’s strongest travel documents. It reaches 183 of 227 destinations, or 80.6% of the world. Of those, 137 are visa-free, 41 offer visa on arrival, two require an ETA and three are accessible by eVisa.

The economic reach is just as notable. The destinations open to Argentine citizens have a combined GDP of US$52.6 trillion, or 50.2% of world output. Germany, Japan, India, the UK and France are the five highest-value economies on that list, with Italy, Brazil, Mexico and South Korea close behind.

Travel reach is where the passport stands out most. Argentine citizens can visit destinations that receive 1.2 billion international visitors a year, or 85.2% of global travel. France, Spain, Italy, Turkey and Mexico lead the list, so the world’s most visited countries are all within reach.

For investors, that combination matters. Visa-free access to the Schengen Area and the UK puts Europe’s major business and financial centres within easy reach. For many of our clients, access to Europe is the starting point when they assess a Latin American passport, and Argentina delivers it alongside strong coverage across Asia, the Middle East and the Americas.

What Argentine Citizenship Offers Beyond Travel

Argentina is a founding member of Mercosur, South America’s largest trade bloc. Under the Mercosur Residence Agreement, Argentine citizens can apply to live and work in member and associated states across the region. That opens a market of hundreds of millions of people.

Argentina is also the third-largest economy in Latin America. The government’s current reforms aim to attract foreign capital and open the economy to international investment. For investors with business interests in South America, citizenship gives them a permanent footing in the region and a passport accepted across Europe.

Argentina and the Wider Citizenship by Investment Market

Argentina joins an established market led by the Caribbean. The Grenada, St Kitts and Nevis, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica and St Lucia Citizenship by Investment Programs are open today and have long track records. Grenada also offers visa access to the US through the E-2 Treaty Investor Visa.

Investors focused on Latin America can also consider the Panama Golden Visa. It is a residency route that combines a quality real estate investment with permanent residency, and it is possible to apply for citizenship after five years.

Planning Your Second Citizenship

Argentina has set out a competitive, well-structured program, and the Q4 launch gives investors time to prepare. Families can review the costs now, gather documents for due diligence, and compare Argentina with the programs open today. Programs change as governments refine their terms, so early preparation puts investors in the strongest position at launch.
