The France Talent Visa program offers a pathway to French residency and, over time, investors may become eligible to apply for French citizenship through naturalization. A French passport provides access to 214 of the world’s 227 destinations. That’s 94.3% of all worldwide destinations. This represents access to 99.4% of global GDP and 99.6% of the world’s most visited travel destinations, based on international visitor arrivals.
French passport holders can access a high percentage of the world. This access breaks down into four main categories.
That leaves just 13 destinations in the world that require a traditional visa application – the slow route of sending your passport away, booking appointments, or queuing at an embassy or visa center.
But counting destinations doesn’t give the full picture.
For years, passport rankings have focused almost entirely on one metric: the number of destinations accessible without a visa.
At La Vida, we believe this only tells part of the story. Visa-free access to an island nation doesn’t offer the same practical value as access to major economies, financial centres and the world’s busiest travel destinations.
Most passport indices treat every destination equally. Whether it’s access to France or a tiny Pacific island, each counts as one point. In reality, the destinations a passport unlocks vary enormously in terms of business opportunities, travel demand and economic importance.
That’s why we developed the La Vida Passport Value Index. Our passport comparison tool is built for one purpose: helping people decide whether a second citizenship is worth the investment, and which program delivers the most value for their situation. Rather than simply counting destinations, our methodology weights each one according to:
On that basis, a French passport provides access to:
In other words, the value of a French passport lies not only in the number of destinations it reaches, but in the significance of those destinations.
(You can read exactly how we calculate these figures in our Passport Value Data and Methodology.)
A French passport reaches most of the world’s most popular destinations including Spain, the USA, Italy and Turkey. Each bar shows that country’s share of worldwide international arrivals.

A French passport provides access to destinations that account for more than 99 out of every 100 international leisure and business trips made worldwide.
Some of the largest economies by GDP that a French passport grants access to are the USA, China, Germany, Japan and India. Each bar shows that country’s share of global GDP.

A French passport reaches destinations responsible for over 99% of global economic output, providing access to virtually every major business and investment market in the world.
A French passport offers near-total global reach – 99.4% of world GDP and 99.6% of international travel – rivalling the very strongest passports in the La Vida Index. Beyond the raw figures, France’s diplomatic and cultural footprint is unusually broad: one of the world’s largest overseas diplomatic networks, deep commercial ties across the Francophone world in Africa and the Americas, and – fittingly – France is itself the single most-visited country in this report’s own travel data, underlining just how comprehensively a French passport reaches the rest of the world in turn.
France does not offer a direct citizenship by investment route. The Talent Visa – whether through the Business Creation and Start-up category or the Business Investment category – grants a four-year residency visa. French citizenship may become available through naturalisation after at least five years of habitual and continuous residence, subject to language, civic integration and other eligibility requirements.
A stronger passport can provide far more than easier travel. Depending on your objectives, improved international mobility may support:
When choosing a residency or citizenship by investment program, the fit between a second passport and your existing one is often overlooked. Your current passport already has its own visa access list – anything a second passport adds should complement those destinations. Doubling up on the same access offers no real benefit.
See what a French passport would actually add for you. Our free Passport Value Report tool compares your current passport with a French passport (or any of the programs we offer) and shows the additional GDP access, travel access and destinations a second citizenship would bring – personalized to your passport, not a generic ranking. La Vida is the only consultancy offering this level of analysis, and the report is free.

What would a French passport add to yours?
A second passport should complement your current one, not duplicate it. Our free Passport Value Report compares France with your existing passport and shows exactly what extra access — by destinations, GDP and travel — the combination unlocks.
Compare your passports →France’s Talent Visa program offers two main investment-based routes to French residency. The Business Creation and Start-up route requires a minimum investment of €30,000 into a real commercial, artisanal or industrial business in France, along with a master’s degree-level education; successful applicants are granted a four-year residency visa. The Business Investment route is designed for high-net-worth investors seeking to make a meaningful economic contribution to France, requiring a minimum of €300,000 committed to an established business and expected to create permanent full-time jobs for French workers, also granting a four-year residency visa. France does not offer a direct citizenship by investment route: French citizenship may become possible only after five years of full-time residency and a French language test, in line with standard naturalization requirements.
La Vida offers over 18 residency and citizenship programs worldwide. We analyze not just visa-free travel, but the full picture – family eligibility, timescales, costs and long-term benefits – to identify the program that best fits your needs.

The La Vida Passport Value Index is updated annually using visa policy information together with economic data from the World Bank and international visitor statistics published by the UN World Tourism Organisation.
Our methodology weights destinations according to their relative economic importance and international travel demand, providing a broader measure of passport utility than destination count alone.
