Countries & Territories Breakdown

A Pakistani passport can access destinations across Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia and the Pacific. This access breaks down into four main categories.

  • 15 destinations fully visa-free
  • 16 with visa on arrival
  • 1 with a simple electronic travel authorization (eTA)
  • 54 with an eVisa – straightforward online access that most passport indices ignore
◄ Counted as access · 86 Visa required · 141 ►
  • Visa-free 15
  • Visa on arrival 16
  • ETA / eTA 1
  • eVisa 54
  • Visa required 141

That leaves 141 destinations – nearly two-thirds of the world – that require a traditional visa application: sending your passport away, booking an embassy appointment, and waiting.

But counting destinations doesn’t give the full picture.

Why Visa-Free Counts Don’t Tell the Whole Story

For years, passport rankings have focused almost entirely on one metric: the number of destinations accessible without a visa.

At La Vida, we believe this only tells part of the story. Visa-free access to an island nation doesn’t offer the same practical value as access to major economies, financial centers and the world’s busiest travel destinations.

Most passport indices treat every destination equally. Whether it’s access to France or a tiny Pacific island, each counts as one point. In reality, the destinations a passport unlocks vary enormously in terms of business opportunities, travel demand and economic importance.

La Vida Measures Passport Value Differently

That’s why we developed the La Vida Passport Value Index. Our passport comparison tool is built for one purpose: helping people decide whether a second citizenship is worth the investment, and which program delivers the most value for their situation. Rather than simply counting destinations, our methodology weights each one according to:

  • Its share of global GDP (World Bank)
  • Its share of international visitor arrivals (UN World Tourism Organisation)

On that basis, a Pakistani passport provides access to:

  • $6.8 trillion of global GDP (6.5% of the world economy)
  • 212.3 million international visitor arrivals (15.0% of worldwide travel)

In other words, the value of a Pakistani passport is limited not by the number of destinations it reaches, but by the significance of those destinations.

(You can read exactly how we calculate these figures in our Passport Value Data and Methodology.)

Travel Value – Top Destinations by Visitors

A Pakistani passport provides access to several significant travel markets, led by Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam. Each bar shows that country’s share of worldwide international arrivals.

What this means

A Pakistani passport reaches destinations responsible for just 6.5% of global economic output, with none of the world’s largest economies among them.

La Vida’s Expert Insight

A Pakistani passport’s value is concentrated in Southeast Asia, parts of Africa and Central Asia – genuinely useful regionally, but structurally disconnected from the markets that carry the most global economic weight. No EU or Schengen country, nor the UK, USA, China, Japan or Germany, is currently among the 86 destinations accessible with a Pakistani passport. This is why the GDP-weighted figure (6.5%) sits so far below the destination-count figure (37.9%). With over 240 million citizens and a large diaspora with global business and family ties, the demand among Pakistanis for a passport that better matches their international ambitions is well understood at La Vida from years of working directly with Pakistani clients.

Why Passport Access Matters

A stronger passport can provide far more than easier travel. Depending on your objectives, improved international mobility may support:

  • International business connections
  • Family relocation planning
  • Education opportunities
  • Cross-border banking
  • Property investment overseas
  • Lifestyle flexibility
  • Long-term geopolitical diversification
  • Global tax efficiency

Discover How a Second Passport Compares With Your Pakistani Passport

Your current passport already has its own access list – anything a second passport adds should complement those destinations, not just add a similar set. The Pakistani passport’s biggest gap is in the world’s largest economies and travel markets, so the most valuable second passport is one that closes that specific gap.

See what a second passport would actually add for you. Our free Passport Value Report tool compares your Pakistani passport with any second passport. It shows the additional GDP access, travel access and destinations it would bring – personalized to your passport, not a generic ranking. La Vida is the only consultancy offering this level of analysis, and the report is free.

Pakistan’s Citizenship by Investment Route & Other Favourable Alternatives

Pakistan does offer a citizenship by investment route of its own, but it runs in the opposite direction from what most readers of this page are looking for. It’s exclusively available to citizens of Commonwealth countries: eligible applicants can obtain Pakistani citizenship by transferring at least Rs. 5,000,000 (approximately USD 18,000) to Pakistan through official banking channels. Meeting this requirement does not guarantee approval, and the route is not open to non-Commonwealth nationals.

Given how limited a Pakistani passport’s own global reach is, stronger citizenship by investment options exist elsewhere – Caribbean programs such as Grenada and St Kitts & Nevis are among the most popular with La Vida’s Pakistani clients, offering a more powerful passport at a defined, one-time cost.

La Vida offers over 18 residency and citizenship programs worldwide. We analyze not just visa-free travel, but the full picture – family eligibility, timescales, costs and long-term benefits – to identify the program that best fits your needs.

FAQs

How many countries can I visit visa-free with a Pakistani passport?

A Pakistani passport provides fully visa-free access to 15 destinations, with a further 71 accessible via visa on arrival, eTA or eVisa – 86 destinations in total out of 227 worldwide.

Is the Pakistani passport good for business travel?

It reaches only 6.5% of global GDP ($6.8 trillion), and none of the world’s largest economies are among the destinations it reaches.

Does Pakistan have a citizenship by investment program?

Pakistan has a narrow route exclusively for Commonwealth citizens, who can obtain Pakistani citizenship by transferring at least Rs. 5,000,000 (≈USD 18,000). This does not help Pakistani citizens themselves acquire a second passport. Given Pakistan’s own limited global access, Pakistani citizens seeking a stronger passport typically look to Caribbean programs such as Grenada or St Kitts & Nevis instead.

Can I compare my Pakistani passport with other options?

Yes – our free Passport Value Report compares your Pakistani passport with another passport and shows exactly what additional access a second citizenship could provide.

How is the La Vida Passport Value calculated?

We weight each destination a passport reaches by its share of world GDP (World Bank data) and international visitor arrivals (UN World Tourism Organization data), across 199 countries and 28 territories. Full details are in our methodology.

Research & Methodology

The La Vida Passport Value Index is updated annually using visa policy information together with economic data from the World Bank and international visitor statistics published by the UN World Tourism Organisation.

Our methodology weights destinations according to their relative economic importance and international travel demand, providing a broader measure of passport utility than destination count alone.
