Guernsey is a dependency of the British crown and part of the Common Travel Area agreement with the UK and Ireland. Immigration in Guernsey is controlled by the Guernsey Border Agency (GBA) with applications made through the UK Home Office. Guernsey offer two different residency by investment programmes which are aimed at those who wish to reside in Guernsey for most of the year. Guernsey residents do not pay capital gains tax, wealth tax, gift tax, inheritance tax or indirect sales tax. A flat 20% tax rate is charged on income up to £200,000.
The applicant must be able to show they have at least £1,000,000 in their name in a Guernsey bank account and they must be prepared to invest no less than £750,000 in a way that is of benefit to the Bailiwick of Guernsey. They must also either purchase or rent a property in Guernsey of a minimum value of £750,000.
Individuals who wish to live in Guernsey undertake an active role in the running of a Guernsey-based business can opt for the Entrepreneur Immigration Visa programme. The applicant must be able to show they have at least £200,000 in their name in a Guernsey bank account and which they must be prepared to invest in an existing Guernsey business. Alternatively, the applicant can create a new Guernsey business by investing a minimum of £200,000. Applicants are also required to reside in a property on the island, either through purchase or rental.
