The government of Albania is making plans to launch a Citizenship by Investment programme according to a report on Balkan Web. It follows a decision by the government on 22 July 2022 to form a working group to begin to construct the outline of the CBI programme and to put out to tender the international marketing of the programme.

A price is yet to be set for the investment amount that will lead to Albanian citizenship and an Albanian passport. Albania applied for EU membership in 2009 and membership talks with the EU finally commenced in July 2022. The EU has previously criticised Albania’s intentions to launch a CBI programme.
